The volume of concrete pouring for the Three Gorges reached 4.02 million cubic meters last year. Up to now, the concrete pouring volume has exceeded world record for three consecutive years, creating a miracle in world hydropower construction.
The volume of concrete pouring for the Three Gorges reached 4.02 million cubic meters last year, up to now, the concrete pouring volume has exceeded world record for three consecutive years, creating a miracle in world hydropower construction.
The total volume of main projects including dam, power station buildings is at about 28 million cubic meters. It is world's largest hydropower project in concrete pouring. The world record was set by Brazil Itaipu hydropower station with an annual pouring volume of 3.2 million cubic meters.
Since 1999, Three Gorges project entered the peak period of concrete pouring. In 1999, the volume of concrete pouring reached 4.58 million cubic meters, 1.38 million cubic meters more than the world record. In 2000, the project hit 5.4 million cubic meters in concrete pouring.
The volume for the year 2002 is planned at 1.47 million cubic meters for the Three Gorges project has smoothly passed the peak period of concrete pouring.
Some Facts about the Three Gorges Project
World's Largest Water Conservation Project
China's Three Gorges Project is the largest water conservation project in the world.
World's Largest Hydropower Plant
Upon completion, the Three Gorges Project will be the world's biggest hydropower plant in terms of both total installed capacity and annual average power generation volume.
Three Gorges Project to Take 17 Years
The ongoing Three Gorges Project, which will be the world's largest water conservation facility when completed, will take 17 years to build.
Dam Won't Affect Navigation on Yangtze River
Engineers said that ships can safely pass through the channel except for peak water flow seasons. The maximum flow for smaller ships is between 10,000 and 15,000 cubic meters per second.
Three Gorges Reservoir Inundation
The Three Gorges Reservoir will inundate 632 sq. km., the world's largest inundated area by a single project.
