Italian Premier Berlusconi Acts as Interim Foreign Minister

Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi Sunday became Italy's interim foreign minister following the resignation of Foreign Minister Renato Ruggiero on Saturday.

Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi Sunday became Italy's interim foreign minister following the resignation of Foreign Minister Renato Ruggiero on Saturday.

Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi signed a decree on Sunday evening to accept Ruggiero's resignation and allow Berlusconi to accept as interim foreign minister.

Ruggiero, the former head of the World Trade Organization, quit Saturday evening following a cabinet row triggered by this week's launch of the euro as legal tender.
