Chinese, Ukrainian Presidents Mark Anniversary of Ties

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and his Ukrainian counterpart Leonid Kuchma exchanged congratulatory telegrams Friday on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of relations between their two countries.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and his Ukrainian counterpart Leonid Kuchma exchanged congratulatory telegrams Friday on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of relations between their two countries.

In his telegram, Jiang said that in the past 10 years, the two countries have observed the principles of mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and equality and mutual benefits.

Jiang said that friendly relations between the two countries have developed steadily.

Jiang said the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of ties with Ukraine, and he is willing to promote bilateral relations along with the Ukrainian president.

Kuchma said that he was pleased with the deep understanding the two countries had achieved in fields such as politics, economy and culture.

Kuchma said that he would do his best to create conditions for closer cooperation between the two countries.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his Ukrainian counterpart Anatoly Maximovich Zlenko also exchanged congratulatory telegrams.
