Key Chinese Cities Report Financial Growth in 2001

Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, metropolises in north, east and south China, respectively, all sawincreases in their financial revenues in 2001, according to figures released at the beginning of the new year.

Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, metropolises in north, east and south China, respectively, all sawincreases in their financial revenues in 2001, according to figures released at the beginning of the new year.

Sources at the Beijing Municipal Finance Bureau revealed that the city's revenue rose 31.6 percent to reach 45.42 billion yuan (about 5.47 billion U.S. dollars) in 2001.

Shanghai realized over 130 billion yuan in gross revenue last year, up 13.9 percent over 2000. Revenues from the information andautomobile industries, posts and telecommunications and individualincome tax jointly contributed to the city's overall revenue increase.

Financial revenues of Shenzhen registered an 18.29 percent increased to reach 26.25 billion yuan last year.
