China Eastern Airlines carried 10.35 million passengers last year,, the first time the company had carried more than 10 million passengers in a single year, according to an official of the airline.

The figure was 15 percent more than that for the year 2000.

Meanwhile, the annual safe flying time of the company also hit a record of 217,000 hours in 2201, up 21 percent over 2000, the official said.

He added that the number of the airline's flights was also encouraging, with 113,000 flights in 2001, up 26 percent over 2000.

These latest figures affirm the company's efforts to improve aviation technology for safe flights and first-class aircraft maintenance.
