Chinese baseball will employ coaches from across the
Taiwan
Straits to help it fare better in the Asian Games next year.
Three coaches in Taiwan's professional baseball league will become technical advisors during the Chinese team's preparation for the Asian Games in South Korea and the 2004 Athens Olympics, reported Saturday's Chinese Sports Daily.
The Chinese Baseball Association (CBA) told the newspaper that they hired the well-experienced coaches across the straits in a hope that they will breathe a new life into the national team.
"They would bring the national side a new playing style and improve our ways of training," said one CBA official.
One of the three coaches underlined their value as he guided one local team of
Tianjin
to the title of November's 9th Chinese National Games.
China's best finish in the Asian Games is fourth while Chinese Taipei remains a world baseball power.
China is also planning to launch a professional league next March, which reportedly has aroused interest from American baseball.
