China Stresses Role of Commerce Chambers in Foreign Trade

This is what must be done to promote China's foreign trade and economic cooperation, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Sun Zhenyu said at a reception for the establishment of the "Joint Committee Office of China Chambers of Commerce For Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation."
The Joint Committee Office, through studying common challenges, proposing suggestions, organizing research and promoting exchanges among commerce chambers, will put more stress on the liaison role of chambers of commerce, the office's head Li Huifen said.
The Joint Committee Office consists of China's seven major chambers of commerce for the import and export of machinery and electronic products, textiles, light industrial products and arts and crafts, minerals and chemicals, foodstuffs and animal products, and medicine and health products, as well as for contracting overseas civil engineering projects.
The seven chambers of commerce have a total of 20,000 member enterprises, which are major players of their respective fields.
The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce welcomed the passage of Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) status to China in the United States House of Representatives.
Tung Chee Chung, chairman of HK General Chamber of Commerce, indicated on April 18 that the recorded statistics of the economic growth in the first few months of this year have shown that HK's economic recovery has witnessed a stronger momentum than expected.
The New Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce was established April 18 in Beijing, indicating big progress in economic, trade and commerce cooperation between the two countries.
