China believes that Mongolian Prime Minister Nambaryn Enkhbayar's upcoming visit to China will further promote Sino-Mongolian relations in the new century.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said at a regular press conference Thursday that at the invitation of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, Enkhbayar will pay an official visit to China from January 7 to 12.
Zhang said that both China and Mongolia attach importance to the visit at a time when bilateral relations are in a stage of sound development.
China and Mongolia are close neighbors, and they have enjoyed good-neighborly relationship with the frequent exchange of high- level visits, she said.
During the exchange of visits between Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Mongolian President Nachagyn Bagabandy in 1998 and 1999, the two leaders agreed to draw up a framework for the long-term, stable and healthy relations of good-neighborliness and mutual trust.
Economic and trade relations between the two countries have also developed steadily, with China being the largest investor and trade partner of Mongolia, she said, adding that China is fully confident in the prospects of Sino-Mongolian relations.
