China will further the nationwide drive against fake products in the next year, especially food and medicine, said a senior official Thursday.
Li Rongrong, minister in charge of the State Economic and Trade Commission, made the statement in his report to the ongoing 25th session of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC). The meeting started Monday and concludes Saturday.
China has launched campaigns against counterfeit food, medicine, agricultural products, and cars this year and made remarkable progress, Li said.
Government departments involved in the campaign have revoked 35, 600 business licenses and closed 32,600 violating businesses, with more than 900 people detained by police, he added.
And, about 20 million illegal and pirated books were found while the number of pirated, fake and illegal video and audio products and computer software topped 110 million, Li said.
