China has seized more than 114 million illegal audio-visual products so far this year, including 48 million copies smuggled from overseas, said sources at a national work conference held Thursday in Shenzhen.

Guangdong Province, neighboring Hong Kong and Macao, is the main channel for smuggling VCDs, DVDs and CDs. The local customs, in cooperation with the police and culture departments, has intensified its crackdown on such cases and in fact has deterred the rampant smuggling, the sources said.

Some 79 people have been arrested in Shenzhen alone, and a total of 15 million illegal copies have been destroyed.
