Beijing Touches up Olympic Action Plan
Beijing has been working on an ambitious overall plan to ensure the smooth preparation of the 2008 Olympic Games while boosting the urban development of the Chinese capital.
Beijing has been working on an ambitious overall plan to ensure the smooth preparation of the 2008 Olympic Games while boosting the urban development of the Chinese capital.
The plan, which covers seven years till 2008, will serve as a guide on the social and economic development of Beijing and the city's preparation for the Games.
"In the spirit of the action plan, the city's urbanization and the Olympic preparation are mutually beneficial," said Wang Wei, general secretary of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Organizing Committee (BOCOG).
Beijing was chosen to play host to the Games in July at Moscow, and set up its organizing committee in mid of this month.
The plan covers such general areas as environment, traffic, infrastructure, telecommunication, security, energy and those directly related with the Olympics - construction of Olympic stadiums, funds raising, overall plan for preparing the Olympics.
"The formulation of the action plan has entered the final stage and is expected to be open to the public early next year," said the organizing committee.
