China to Strike Counterfeiting in Eight Aspects Next Year

Striking down on counterfeiting has been publicly claimed as "No.1 Project" topping the agenda of the quality supervision departments throughout the year of 2001. Next year, China will deepen its fight against counterfeiting in eight aspects, like fake food, low-quality cotton, couterfeits of farm produces and etc.

Beijing Destroys Fake Shoddy Food and Cosmetics
China will deepen its fight against counterfeiting in eight aspects next year, as is known from a national meeting held by quality supervision and inspection and quarantine departments December 24 in Suzhou.

Striking down on counterfeiting has been publicly claimed as "No.1 Project" topping the agenda of the quality supervision departments throughout the year of 2001. Since the founding of the State General Administration of PRC for Quality Supervision and Inspection and Quarantine last April, a law enforcement staff with 1.6 million persons/times has been assigned to the fight against counterfeiting, 11,000 underground workshops have been destroyed. Fake goods confiscated had been at a value of 2.3billion yuan, with a total of 1,200 major cases involving a sum of over 100,000 yuan and 40 cases to a worth of over 1 million yuan respectively having been covered and 230 cases transferred to judicial departments.

In the coming year, the state will still mount high pressure on illegal counterfeiting. The attacks would pinpoint the following eight aspects:

  • shoddy construction materials
  • ,

  • substandard auto products

  • dangerous chemical articles

    A regulation has already been promulgated by the state on rewards for commending those who should give tip-offs on counterfeiting and selling counterfeits or fake goods, the biggest grant will be as much high as 300,000 yuan.
