More Chinese Tourists Visit South Korea
More than 444,000 Chinese tourists visited South Korea in the first 11 months this year, the Korea National Tourism Organization said on Tuesday in Seoul.
More than 444,000 Chinese tourists visited South Korea in the first 11 months this year, the Korea National Tourism Organization said on Tuesday in Seoul.
In those months, a total of 4.75 million foreign tourists came to South Korea, with Japan leading the tourist number with 2.22 million people, followed by Chinese mainland with 444,113 people and the United States 395,963.
It is the first time that mainland Chinese tourists to South Korea have outnumbered Americans.
Last year, a total of 458,617 Americans toured South Korea while 442,794 Chinese people visited the country.
The number of Chinese tourists stood at 210,662 in 1998 and 316, 639 in 1999.
South Korea has taken various marketing strategies and tour programs to attract more Chinese tourists.
The tourism organization estimated that some 600,000 Chinese will visit South Korea next year during the World Cup soccer finals.
