Wei Jianxing Meets Senior Libyan Official

Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Mubarak Al-Shamekh, secretary general of the General People's Committee of Libya, Sunday in Tripoli.

Wei spoke highly of the active efforts of Libya in protecting national independence and sovereignty, and promoting the solidarity of African and Arab countries, saying that with the efforts of Libya and other countries, the African Union has officially started operation, which brings hope to African renaissance.

He said that consolidating and developing friendly cooperation with African countries has always been a significant part of China's independent diplomatic policies of peace.

China is willing to work together with Libya and other African countries to consolidate the active results of China-Africa Cooperation Forum, and develop mutually beneficial cooperative relations between China and Africa on the basis of equality and mutual benefit and common development, the Chinese official added.

When talking about Sino-Libyan relations, Wei said that despite different national conditions, China and Libya have common or similar views on many international issues. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have had constant development in friendly cooperative relations, supported each other politically and maintained good development momentum in economic and trade sectors.

He said that China highly appreciates the Libyan government's stance of adhering to the One-China Principle and its support to China on human right issues. In the new century, the Chinese side is willing to work together with Libya to further reinforce and develop the lasting and friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries, and continue to consolidate negotiation and cooperation on bilateral and international affairs.

Shamekh said that both Libya and China are third world countries, both have a glorious history of fighting for national independence and social progress. The traditional friendship between the two peoples, especially the very good relationship between leaders of the two countries, has helped maintain the healthy development momentum of friendly cooperative relations between the two countries in various fields.

He said that in recent years, the international situation has experienced dramatic changes, but China continues to play an important role as a significant force of the third world.

The Libyan government and people sincerely thank the Chinese government and people for their support over the past many years, and wish to see more fruits of cooperation between the two countries in energy, transportation, telecommunication and other fields.

Wei also introduced to Shamekh China's domestic conditions and views on current international situation.
