China has verbally agreed toplay at the Lunar New Year Cup soccer tournament in Hong Kong early next year, organizers said in Hong Kong on Saturday.
"Yes, they (Chinese team) are coming", Derek Currie, Carlsberg public relations consultant, said on Saturday. "They (Chinese team) set some certain preconditions for coming. All of them have been met."
Carlsberg Cup is the other name for the Lunar New Year Cup, with the Carlsberg Company sponsoring the tournament slated for February 12 and 15.
"They said they would send us written confirmation within 48 hours", said Currie.
Slovenia, also a 2002 World Cup finalist, has confirmed their participation in the tournament. The third team, possibly a South or Central American team, willbe announced later. As usual, the fourth contender will be a local team composed ofthe Hong Kong League players.
For the Chinese soccer team, it will be the first time to play at the traditional tournament.
