Official in Shenzhen Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

The former secretary of the Bao'an District Committee of the Communist Party of China in Shenzhen City was sentenced to life imprisonment with his political rights deprived for life on Friday for taking a huge amount of bribes.

According to the court verdict of the Intermediate People's Court of Shenzhen City, 56-year-old Yu Dehai took bribes worth 1.53 million yuan when he served as secretary of the Bao'an District CPC Committee between October 1990 and December 1997. In addition,he failed to account for 5 million HK dollars in his possession. He was given a lenient treatment as he voluntarily surrendered himself, confessed his crimes and returned all illicit gains, court sources said.
