Nokia to Double Investment in Beijing

Beijing Shouxin Nokia new workshop, ie Xingwang (international) industrial park was formally put into operation in Beijing economic-technological development area December 20. Since its establishment in May 2000, the industrial park has been progressing very smoothly. So far, some 15 domestic and foreign famous companies have settled down in the park.

Beijing Shouxin Nokia Workshop has been built over an area of 56,000 square meters. With this are new workshops by other companies under construction.

The park has already been equipped with state-of-art technology projects such as lithium battery, precision printed circuit board and world first class production and processing service and others.

Second Phase Cooperation
Beijing has signed a memo on second-phase cooperation for the industrial park with Nokia, Nokia said that its investment in Beijing is to be expanded by one fold.

The scale of the first-phase project Nokia invested will double, with floor space of workshops to increase from 50 ha to 100 ha. The number of companies going to settle in the park will also rise to 15. With a total investment of over 10 billion yuan, it is so far Beijing's largest foreign-funded project.



Nokia Vows to Expand China Business

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia pledged to expand its business in China to buoy its position as a global industrial leader, as it posted strong fourth quarter earnings in 2000.

"China is a very important market for Nokia and we hope to continue to outperform the market growth here this year," Urpo Karjalainen, who became president of the Nokia (China) Investment Co., Ltd early this month, was quoted as saying.
