State Council Issues Regulation for Foreign-funded Telecom Firms

Premier Zhu Rongji signed a decree recently to issue a regulation about administration of foreign-funded telecommunication enterprises.

Premier Zhu Rongji signed a decree recently to issue a regulation about administration of foreign-funded telecommunication enterprises.

The regulation will be effective on January 1, 2002.

According to the 25-article regulation, the foreign-funded telecommunication enterprises refer to joint ventures in the sector of telecommunications jointly funded and operated by Chinese and foreign investors in China.

The enterprises are allowed to handle general telecommunicationbusiness and value-added telecommunication business in accordance with regulation.

Operation of the enterprises also must follow the country's telecommunication industry regulation and related laws and regulations.
