The Chinese government on Wednesday donated de-mining equipment worth more than 100,000 U.S. dollars to the Ethiopian government.
At the hand-over ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Ai Ping said that at the turn of the new century, peace and development have become the two major themes in the current world, and many war-torn developing countries are still facing the threat of the deadly mines in the process of economic and social development.
The donation of these equipment to Ethiopia is part of the international de-mining cooperation program, said the ambassador.
He said China and Ethiopia have enjoyed traditional friendly relations, and since the establishment of diplomatic relations 31 years ago, especially during the last 10 years, both sides have carried out true, friendly and fruitful cooperation in the political, trade and economic, health, cultural and educational fields.
Brigade General Kassa Deme, head of Defense Engineering Main Department of the Ethiopian Defense Ministry, appreciated the moves being taken by the Chinese government to back up de-mining activities in Ethiopia.
