The organizers of the 2003 Women's World Cup in China held their first meeting Tuesday in Wuhan, to start the preparations and the count-down for women's soccer's top-class event.
This is the second time that China plays host to the world-class event, following the inaugural women's soccer world championships in southern Chinese province of Guangdong. The tournament was later re-named as Women's World Cup.
The 2003 World Cup will be held September 24 to October 11 in China, with matches scheduled for, apart from Wuhan, eastern Chinese cities Shanghai and Hangzhou and southwestern city of Chengdu.
The 2003 event is expected to attract some 400 players of 16 teams from across the world.
Organizers of the four Chinese venue cities made detailed reports on their preparations for the tournament at the preparatory committee meeting. And the committee introduced requirement on the event sanctioned by the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), the sport's world governing body.
