China hopes India and Pakistanwill continue to show restraint and thus avoid new tension in South Asia, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Tuesday at a press conference.

In a response to a question from the press, Zhang expressed China's wish that India and Pakistan, two important South Asian countries, will make further efforts towards peace and stability in the region.
On the terrorist shooting at India's Parliament building on December 13, Zhang said China "was shocked ," and "expressed sympathy and condolences to the families of those killed and injured."
Zhang stressed that the Chinese government opposes and condemnsany form of terrorist activities, and "is against any country thatlaunches terrorist attacks through organizations or individuals."
Zhang also said both China and Pakistan are busy preparing for Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's visit to China on December 20. China hopes Musharraf's visit will make a new contribution to China-Pakistan relations, Zhang said.
