"One Country, Two Systems" Principle Makes Macao Prosperous: Ma Man Kei

The principle of "One Country, Two Systems" has been successfully implemented in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) over the past two years.

The principle of "One Country, Two Systems" has been successfully implemented in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) over the past two years.

Ma Man Kei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remark Tuesday at a reception held by the Macao Chamber of Commerce to mark the 2nd anniversary on Macao's return to the motherland.

The central government did not interfere in the inner affairs of the Macao SAR and provided active support for Macao's social stability and economic expansion, said Ma, who is also chairman ofthe Macao Chamber of Commerce.

Macao's economy remains active despite challenges caused by theworld's economic slowdown, and China's entry into the World Trade Organization will provide numerous opportunities for Macao's business people, he said.

The Macao Chamber of Commerce will consolidate the unity of theindustrial and commercial sector and support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in Macao, he said.

Ma noted that Macao will become more prosperous with strong support from the motherland and efforts made by all Macao people.

Present at the reception were Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wahof the Macao SAR and nearly 500 people from all walks of life.
