China Increases Highway Length

Some 32,000 kilometers of new highway across China will be added to the country's total mileage this year.

Some 32,000 kilometers of new highway across China will be added to the country's total mileage this year.

The additional roadway brings the total highway length in China to 1.43 million kilometers.

China invested 260 billion yuan on communication infrastructure projects this year, an all-time high, said Minister of Communication Huang Zhendong.

The amount of investment for highway projects in western China increased by 23 percent in the first 11 months of this year compared with the figure a year ago. Construction of eight key inter-province roads has started.

An estimated 14.3 billion people traveled by bus so far this year. The cargo transport volume across China is expected to reach10.5 billion tons this year, 1.4 percent more than the figure of last year.
