Japanese Firms Plan Direct Investment in China: Survey
Nearly all of the Japanese companies planning to increase direct overseas investments in the next three years were found to intend to do so in China, accordingto a survey released by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Monday.

The multi-question survey of 720 member companies conducted by the Japanese government-affiliated organization in October found that of the 300 that are planning to boost overseas direct investment in the three years from fiscal 2002, 287 or 95.7 percent of them have chosen China as the site for plant construction and other direct investment moves.
China was followed by the United States, chosen by 39.7 percent,JETRO said.
As to reasons for plans to increase direct investment in China,71.1 percent referred to the expansion of local production and sales and 44.9 percent mentioned the reduction of costs.
