Border Economic Zone in Xinjiang Takes Shape
The Yining Border Economic Cooperative Zone (ECZ) in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has set up higher goals after 10 years of development.
By 2005, the industrial output value of the ECZ would reach RMB 200 million yuan (about 24.1 million US dollars) and its total export volume would hit 5.42 million US dollars.

Wu Baoji, an ECZ official, said that by 2005, the industrial output value of the ECZ would reach RMB 200 million yuan (about 24.1 million US dollars) and its total export volume would hit 5.42 million US dollars.
110 million yuan investment absorbed
According to Wu, the ECZ has absorbed an investment of more than 110 million yuan (about 13.25 million U.S. dollars) this year.
Many enterprises had moved into
By October, some 95 enterprises had moved into the ECZ. They are mostly enterprises of wine brewing, paper making, pharmacy, building materials, color printing and forestry.
Investment enrionment improved
To improve the investment enrionment, Wu said, the Yining city government has passed to the ECZ some of its functions such as tax collection and project approval, and called off 11 charges for administrative management, Wu said.
Goals
Established in the early 1990s, the 10-square-kilometer zone in Yining City targets both domestic market and central Asia, and hopes to boost local economy by using its advantages in geography, resources and policies.
Xinjiang Yining Border Economic Cooperation Zone
It is a Comprehensive economic zone with multiple levels, majoring in export-oriented and high technology business, industry and commerce. It was approved to be one of the national border economic cooperation zone by the State Council in June 1992.

City of Yining
The city is in the middle of Yili River Valley. Against the Kegurqin Mountains and facing to River Yili in the south. In the Qing Times, it was the Ningyuan City, and now it is the capital of Yili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture. The city proper and its suburbs are like a huge garden with poplar, apple trees everywhere.
