Domestic Firms Encouraged to Protect Interest by Law

More than two years after defending an anti-dumping lawsuit filed by US counterparts, ten Chinese apple juice producers, have successfully taken over almost all of China's apple juice exports to the United States. Economists pointed out that when participating in the global market, Chinese businessmen should have the courage to face law suits to protect their own rights by taking the advantage of international norms.

US Raised Anti-dumping Tax on China
In June 1999, US juice producers submitted a demand to the Ministry of Commerce to place an anti-dumping tax fee of 91.84 percent on Chinese apple juice entering the US market.

Of the over 40 Chinese apple juice producers involved, ten decided to defend the suit and invited experienced US lawyers to help handle the anti-dumping cases.

China Won Final Verdict
In April 2000, the US Ministry of Commerce handed down the final verdict, setting an average import taxation rate for the ten Chinese apple juice producers at 14.88 percent, much lower than the 51.74 percent required to pay by the remaining Chinese apple producers who did not take part in the lawsuit to try avoiding the court proceedings.



China to Better Protect Domestic Enterprises Against Anti-dumping

To support the promulgation of the Anti-dumping, Anti-subsidy and Protection Measures in order to create a fair trade environment and better protect Chinese enterprises, December 12 saw a symposium on the three regulations held by Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) in Beijing.

MOFTEC will effectively protect domestic enterprises by following WTO rules and strictly abiding by related laws and regulations. On the other hand, China has become the country receiving the most anti-dumping cases in the world. Full Story
