Beijing Establishes Network to Prevent Workplace Crimes

The network and the involvement of the local people's procuratorate helped crack a major fraud case at the Capital SteelGroup, and as a result has saved the steel giant over two million yuan a year, sources said.

Wang Shuangjin, anti-corruption director of the Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate, said that the network covers industries such as finance, industrial production and construction,and contributes greatly to the development of local state-owned enterprises.

Enterprises may report suspected workplace crimes to procuratorates through the network, in a bid to prevent damage to state assets and formulate countermeasures.

The Capital Steel Group reported elimination of middle-level management corruption after being linked to the network, the sources said.

Statistics show that local anti-corruption departments saved Beijing's state-owned firms a total of 7.9 billion yuan from January 2000 to October 2001, with 512 corrupt officials having received punishment.
