Yugoslav President Meets Albanian Socialist Party President

Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica met with President of the Socialist Party of Albania Fatos Nano here Friday to talk about how to strengthen the bilateral relations.

Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica met with President of the Socialist Party of Albania Fatos Nano here Friday to talk about how to strengthen the bilateral relations.

According to the Presidential Office, both sides discussed the possibility of further strengthening the bilateral relations and the importance of regional stability. The two leaders also exchanged their experience on the reforms in their two countries.

Dragoliub Micunovic, chairman of the Chamber of Citizens (lower house of parliament) of Yugoslavia, also met with Nano on Friday.

Micunovic told the joint press conference after the meeting that further developing the friendly relations between Albania and Yugoslavia would benefit the normalization of the situation in Kosovo.

Nano, also chairman of the Foreign Affair Committee of the Albanian parliament, said Albania would develop cooperation with Yugoslavia within a new framework.

"Both countries will become not only good neighbors but also partners in developing the regional economy and merging into the international community," Nano added.

Nano was the first Albanian politician to visit Yugoslavia after the two countries normalized diplomatic ties in January this year.
