The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will create special working teams to help Central Asian countries combat terrorism, an OSCE official said in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on Friday.

The working teams will consider the possibility of rendering financial, technological and consultative assistance to terrorism- afflicted countries in Central Russia, according to Canadian delegate of the OSCE Eveline Paskley.

According to Itar-Tass news agency reports, Paskley made the remarks while attending the International Conference on the Consolidation of Security and Stability in Central Asia, which is underway in Bishkek.

Paskley said it is well known that terror acts are most frequent in poor countries, where the law enforcement system is weak and human rights are abused.

So, she said, many countries in Central Asia should be helped to reform and enhance the effectiveness of their national administrations, to improve their national legislation in order to fight terrorism.

Aid from the OSCE will accelerate these countries' accession to the existing U.N. anti-terrorism conventions, Paskley stressed.
