30th Anniversary of Cyprus-China Diplomatic Ties Marked

Cypriot Ambassador to China Loria Markides held a reception Friday in Beijing to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Cyprus and China.

Cypriot Ambassador to China Loria Markides held a reception Friday in Beijing to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Cyprus and China.

Vice Chairman Xu Jialu of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, Vice Foreign Minister Yang Wenchang and other Chinese officials attended the reception.

Markides said that during the past 30 years, Cyprus and China have developed a deep friendship and cooperative relations in accordance with international norms.

She spoke highly of China's achievements in its reform and opening-up, and stressed that the government of Cyprus supports the one-China policy.

Yang said Sino-Cypriot friendly cooperative relations in various fields have progressed well since the two countries forged diplomatic relations. The two countries also cooperate closely in regional and international affairs.

The Chinese government always holds that all countries, big or small, rich or poor, strong or weak, are all equal members of the international community, said Yang, adding that strengthening Sino- Cypriot friendly cooperative relations is a set policy of the Chinese government.

China is willing to further the bilateral relations on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence.
