CPC Official Meets Norodom Ranarith

Wei Jianxing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Friday morning with Norodom Ranarith, chairman of the Cambodian Funcinpec Party and president of the Cambodian National Assembly.

They talked over the relationship between the two parties and two countries and other issues of common concern.

Wei Jianxing, also member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, conveyed to Ranarith greetings from CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin and Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Li Peng.

He spoke highly of the role of the Funcinpec Party in Cambodian political life, saying that the Party, founded by King Sihanouk himself, has made significant contributions to national independence, peace and economic development of Cambodia. The Funcinpec Party adheres to the principle of paying top attention to national interest, cooperating with other parties to jointly protect the stability, reconstruction and development of Cambodia.

Wei said that China and Cambodia are friendly close neighbors, despite different national conditions. They both uphold friendly exchanges on the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence.

He said that as ruling parties, both the CPC and the Funcinpec Party are facing tasks of developing national economy, promoting regional stability and protecting world peace.

He said that the CPC and the Chinese government appreciate the principle stance of the Funcinpec Party of adhering to One China Policy and its long-lasting support for China's reunification cause.

Ranarith said that the traditional friendship between Cambodia and China has a long history. King Sihanouk and the three generations of leaders of the CPC and the Chinese government have made great contributions in consolidating the friendly cooperation.

He said that the Cambodian government and the Funcinpec Party highly value and heartily thank the Chinese side for the valuable aid to Cambodia. The Funcinpec Party will work together with the Cambodian People's Party and other parties to continue the principle of coexistence proposed by King Sihanouk and the late Premier Zhou Enlai, and will continue to adhere to the One China principle stance.
