Chinese President Meets Myanmar SPDC First Secretary

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Wednesday afternoon with Khin Nyunt, first secretary of the State Peace and Development Council of Myanmar.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Wednesday afternoon with Khin Nyunt, first secretary of the State Peace and Development Council of Myanmar.

Khin Nyunt extended a welcome on behalf of the Myanmar government and said he is convinced that this visit is bound to promote the continuous development of bilateral friendship.

Jiang said this is his first visit to Myanmar and he has experienced bilateral "pawkphaw" (fraternal) friendship.

Jiang noted that since the two countries set up diplomatic ties, bilateral friendship and cooperation fostered by leaders of the older generations have witnessed continuous development with constant high-level exchanges of visits, more cooperation and support for each other in international and regional affairs.

Voicing his satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations, Jiang stressed that China will join Myanmar friends in continuing to promote the development of bilateral ties in the new century.

Jiang invited Khin Nyunt to visit China again, and Khin Nyunt accepted the invitation.
