Two Israeli F-16 jet fighters fired at least three missiles at the headquarters of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in Gaza City Wednesday night, a Xinhua correspondent said.

Electricity has been cut off in the areas surrounding the presidential headquarters, the correspondent added.

It was not clear whether there were any casualties.

Reports said that Israeli warplanes also attacked the Palestinian city of Nablus in the West Bank.

The latest Israeli air strikes against Palestinian targets were an apparent retaliation for an earlier shooting attack by Palestinian gunmen on an Israeli bus in the West Bank, which left at least 10 Israelis dead and more than 30 others injured.

A vicious circle of violence was raging between the two sides following a wave of Palestinian suicide bombing attacks against Israelis in Jerusalem and Haifa early this month.

Israeli army has since launched several rounds of air raids on Palestinian targets in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
