Large Figure Mural Paintings Discovered in China

Local archaeologists recently announced that a set of figure mural paintings of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), covering more than 120 square meters have been discovered in Shima Township, Zibo City in east China's Shandong Province.

Archaeologists say that it is the first time such large figure mural paintings have been discovered in China.

According to the archaeologists, the frescos vividly portray over 300 figures each with different appearances and postures, and show characters from various stratas of the then society. The figures are set off by chains of mountains and green forests.

The frescos were accidentally discovered in an abandoned barn which was a temple in the 1970's.

After careful examination, the archaeologists have confirmed that the frescos were painted in the Ming Dynasty.

After restoration, the original rich colors of these artistically valuable paintings have returned.
