China to Have First Registered Three-dimensional Trademarks

A famous fictional figure in China will soon appear on one of the country's first registered three-dimensional trademarks.

A famous fictional figure in China will soon appear on one of the country's first registered three-dimensional trademarks.

Xianheng Corporations has the fictional figure of Kong Yiji on all of its buildings in 14 Chinese cities which include Beijing and Shanghai.

Created by Lu Xun (1881--1936), a well known Chinese author, Kong Yiji, who spends much of his time in public houses, wearing a Chinese gown and holding a handful of beans, is a household name in China.

Dong Baolin, an expert with the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and commerce says, the office has been processing applications for three-dimensional trademarks since December 1.

Dong said that the newly-revised Trademark Law of China has extended its protection of two-dimensional trademarks to include three-dimensionals and color patterns.

The other three-dimensional trademark applicants include the Coca-Cola bottle and McDonald's big "M" .
