Water from Yangtze to Join Yellow River by 2008

Residents in Qingdao City, east China's Shandong Province, will be able to have drinking water from China's longest river, the Yangtze, by 2008.,

Construction of the eastern line of China's south-north water diversion project will begin next year.

By 2008, the Yangtze Riverwater will be channeled to the Yellow River in Shandong Province from Jiangsu Province.

In addition to the eastern line, the western and central lines in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River will also be built to send Yangtze River water to seven provinces in northern China. Qingdao will host the water sports matches, when the 2008 Olympic Games are held in China.
