Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao met Tuesday with visiting South African President Thabo Mbeki.
Hu said in recent years the two countries saw comprehensive and smooth development of bilateral relationship, featuring frequent high profile visits, continuous growth of trade and continuing cooperation in other fields.
The Pretoria Declaration on the Partnership between the two countries, which was signed by Chinese President Jiang Zemin and South African President Thabo Mbeki, guides the two countries' further relationship in the new century, Hu said.
The two presidents launched the China-South Africa Bi-National Commission Monday in Beijing, which will lay a more solid foundation for the two countries to improve their relations, Hu said.
Hu highly values recent achievements made by the South African government and the people led by Mbeki towards social stability and economic development.
Hu also highly values the African renaissance advocated by President Mbeki and the new partnership program for the development of African nations.
Mbeki said he reached broad consensus with President Jiang in their talks Monday. He said both presidents were satisfied with the development of the bilateral relationship of their countries in recent years.
Mbeki repeated his congratulations to China for its formal entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO).
He said South Africa is willing to increase cooperation with China in the new round of WTO negotiations, in order to push forward a more impartial and equal trade system in the world.
Mbeki said it is very important for the two countries to strengthen their relations in the future.
