German, Chinese Automakers in Pact to Produce Top Luxury Bus
Evobus, a sub-firm of Mercedes-Benz, has signed an agreement with a Chinese automaker Ankai Automobile Co., Ltd. for the production of its S315 series of luxury bus in China. Evobus will provide technical assistance for the production line at the Ankai in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province. The agreement provides for a 10-year cooperation between the two sides that have been approved by the central government.
Evobus's S315 series are products of the 1990s. They are equipped with Mercedes-Benz's most sophisticated engines and are believed to represent the state-of-the-art bus technologies worldwide, Ankai sources said.
The agreement provides for a 10-year cooperation between the two sides. Ankai sources said the cooperation has been approved by the central government, and that the new bus will hit the market as early as next year.
Ankai and Evobus are cooperating for the second time. The two sides entered a similar pact in 1993 for the production of Ankai luxury buses, the most luxury and expensive buses produced in China.
Since then, more than 1,200 such buses have been sold by the company.
