Jiang Enzhu Supports Tung Chee Hwa to Seek Re-Election

Jiang Enzhu, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Monday said that he would support Tung Chee Hwa, the SAR Chief Executive, to seek re- election next year.

Jiang said that he will surely give his support if Tung announces that he will seek re-election. Jiang made the remark when asked at an exhibition on Tibetan jewelry here.

Jiang said Tung had done well in the past four years, noting that Hong Kong had managed to overcome the Asian financial crisis and it now faces an economic slowdown because of the slump in the global economy.

"I think that it is very important that there should be stability and continuity in post of chief executive," Jiang said, adding that several Hong Kong business tycoons also expressed their support to Tung's re-election.
