Exhibition on Chinese Heritages Opens in Egypt

A photo exhibition titled "World Heritages in China" opened Sunday in Cairo, as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the resumption of China's legitimate seat in the United Nations.

A photo exhibition titled "World Heritages in China" opened Sunday in Cairo, as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the resumption of China's legitimate seat in the United Nations.

The showcase event, which will run through December 14, offered audience a window to savour China's ancient civilization and scenic landscapes.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liu Xiaoming said that "Chinese cultural and natural heritages are manifestations of not only the wisdom of Chinese people, but also the tremendous contributions of China to human civilization."

He said that China and Egypt, both with long history and rich civilization, will be developed into modernized nations in the 21st century.

He also expressed hope that the two nations, together with the rest of the world, would make concerted efforts to work for a peaceful, stable and prosperous new century.

China acceded to the World Heritage Convention in 1985. From 1987 to 2000, 27 sites in China, including the Great Wall, Mount Taishan, the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors, were added on the list of the world heritages.
