Vice Premier Urges College Logistics Reform
Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing on December 9 called for greater efforts to accelerate the reform of college logistics services, in a bid to improve the country's higher education. The vice-premier stressed that the college logistic service sector will face serious challenges as China is to expand its higher education on a large scale during the coming 5-10 years.

Measures for the Reform
He urged governments at all levels to play a leading role in the reform, saying leading provincial-level officials should try to work out effective methods to overcome the barriers to the reform.
Li said the financial institutions concerned should move actively to provide loans to help construct dormitory buildings and grant loans to poor students.
Li said the logistics service system should be separated from the college administration system.
Reform to Focus on Needs not Profits
The logistic service providers should take into full consideration the needs of education and research work in colleges, and improve their services in accordance with the demands of teachers and students, rather than only aiming at earning higher profits, Li stressed.
Li made the remark at a national conference on college logistics reform December 8 held in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
Remarkable Progress in Universities Logistic Services Reform
China has made remarkable progress in running university logistic services as businesses in a bid to improve higher education.
Since China launched the reform of universities logistics services in 1999, by attracting 8 billion yuan of non-governmental investment, the whole country will complete the construction of 8.32 million square meters of student dormitories, accounting for 26 percent of the total construction floor space of students dormitories constructed by governments since 1949.
