Sri Lankan New Prime Minister Sworn In

Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Sri Lanka's new prime minister Sunday after his Party won Wednesday's parliamentary elections, officials said.

Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Sri Lanka's new prime minister Sunday after his Party won Wednesday's parliamentary elections, officials said.

Wickremesinghe took oath before President Kumaratunga at the President's House on Sunday afternoon, they said.

There is no live coverage of the ceremony by the state-run television or radio.

The new cabinet is expected to be formed in the next few days.
