Bateer Scores 28 Points to Give Beijing Ducks First Win
Center Menk Bateer scored 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Beijing Ducks for a 72-54 win over Sina Lions on Saturday in the opener of the new season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) in Suzhou, Jiangsu.
Bateer, who is planning to join in Denver Nuggets of America's National Basketball Association (NBA) in February, snatched down 15 out of Ducks' first 18 points to put the visiting side ahead in the first quarter.
The much smaller Lions failed to live up to the expectation, shooting a poor 25 percent in the field. The new comer was also beaten up on the board by 48-32.
Forward Jiao Jian had 15 rebounds and 12 points for Ducks, while Lions' guard Jason had a team-high 21 points.
Most members of the Lions' squad are from Taiwan province, whose local league has been locked up for two seasons.
