Shares Edge up in Argentina, Mexico, Close Bearish in Brazil

Latin America's three major stock markets -- Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires -- closed mixed on Friday.

Latin America's three major stock markets -- Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires -- closed mixed on Friday.

Buenos Aires's stock market closed with its Merval index up a marginal 0.38 percent to end at 254.42 points, as compared to Thursday's 253.45 points. The trade volume was 36.574 million U.S.dollars.

In Sao Paulo, Latin America's biggest bourse, the leading Bovespa index closed bearish at 13,233 points, down 1.78 percent from the 13,539 points of the previous close. The turnover was 233 million dollars, as compared to the 280 million dollars of Thursday.

Meanwhile, Mexico City's stock market IPC index, led by transportation and construction stocks, advanced 6,141.19 points, up 0.65 percent from yesterday's6,101.72 points after gaining 39. 47 units. A total of 92 million shares were traded at 111 million dollars.
