Zimbabwean President Promotes 13 Senior Army Officers

Zimbabwean President andCommander-in-chief of the Defense Forces, Robert Mugabe, has promoted 13 senior army officers to the ranks of brigadier generaland lieutenant colonels, defense spokesman Colonel Mbongani Gatsheni said Thursday.

Zimbabwean President andCommander-in-chief of the Defense Forces, Robert Mugabe, has promoted 13 senior army officers to the ranks of brigadier generaland lieutenant colonels, defense spokesman Colonel Mbongani Gatsheni said Thursday.

The promotions, which are in line with the manpower development plan of the army, were effective from November 29, 2001, Gatshenisaid.

The spokesman noted that two colonels were promoted to theranks of brigadier general while 11 lieutenant colonels were promoted to the rank of colonel.

Emmanuel Matatu and Fakazi Mleya were both promoted tobrigadier general and officers promoted to rank of colonel are lieutenant colonels Mbonisi Ndlovu Gatsheni, Callestino Basera,Stephen Gwekwerer, Rufus Promise Chigudu, Paul Chima, Jefter Munongwa, Darlington Ngoni Dutsa, Cfrispen Masuku, Cephas Gurira, Lazaaraus Mangashena and Augustine Chipwere.
