Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen met Wednesday with Warren Christopher, former secretary of state of the United States.
During the meeting, Qian said since the meeting between ChinesePresident Jiang Zemin and US President George Walker Bush in Shanghai in October, the China-US exchanges and cooperation in various fields have made new progress.
China and the US share much more common interests than discrepancies and the China-US ties have solid foundation for development, Qian said.
He said the two sides to should make full use of various opportunities to enhance dialogue and cooperation and properly handle discrepancies between the two, so as to promote the sustained improvement and development of the bilateral relations.
Christopher said the bilateral ties are on the good track and the two keeping good relations is in the interest of both people. He extended his willingness to make efforts for the development ofbilateral relationship.
Qian and Christopher also exchanged views on countering terrorism and other issues of common concern.
