Achievement Reached in Bonn, an Important Step for Peace
China welcomes and supports the achievements reached in Bonn, and considers the agreement an important step for peace, smooth transition and stability in Afghanistan, said the spokeswoman for Foreign Ministry When she was asked to comment on the agreement recently reached by Afghanistan parties in Bonn.
China to Make Contribution Toward Resolving the Issue
China is willing to make its own contribution toward resolving the Afghanistan issue, she said
China will consider re-opening its embassy in Afghanistan when there is reconciliation in Afghanistan and an interim government is formed, Zhang said.
Benefits of Afghan People Should Be Considered
The spokeswoman said China appreciates the efforts made by both the United Nations and the parties of Afghanistan.
On peace-keeping in Afghanistan, Zhang said such action should be authorized by the Security Council of the United Nations and the consent from relevant parties of Afghanistan is also needed.
"Any action should be beneficial to the peace process and post-war reconstruction in Afghanistan," she stressed, adding that China is also willing to make a contribution in this regard.
China hopes the UN conference on Afghanistan underway in Bonn, Germany, will lead to the formation of an interim government in the war-torn country. As a neighbor of Afghanistan, China is very concerned over the situation in Afghanistan, and hope it can regain peace and stability for post-war rebuilding at an early date.
As a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council and a neighbor of Afghanistan, China wants to see Afghanistan realize peace and stability as soon as possible, and is willing to participate in the rebuilding of Afghanistan after the war. China has long hoped that Afghanistan will regain peace and stability as soon as possible and devote itself to developing economy.
China agreed to the common view of the international community that the future Afghan government should be broad-based, include representatives from all ethnic groups in the country and represent their interests.
