Chinese Premier Meets Cote d'Ivoire Minister
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Tuesday with Aboudrahamane Sangare, minister of state for foreign affairs of Cote d'Ivoire.

Zhu said the two countries and their people have enjoyed a deepfriendship since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 18 yearsago, and bilateral relations have developed smoothly.

Fruitful cooperation has been conducted in various fields, withclose cooperation on major international issues and joint safeguarding of the rights and interests of developing countries, noted Zhu.

He expressed his appreciation for Cote d'Ivoire's "one-China" position.

He pointed out that to further the existing friendship and cooperation between the two sides is in the fundamental interest of the two countries and the two peoples.

Zhu also voiced his appreciation for Cote d'Ivoire government'sand people's unremitting efforts to safeguard national stability and solidarity and to revitalize the national economy, as well as the country's positive contributions to promoting the political and economic integration of Africa.

Sangare said China in the past years has provided African countries, especially Cote d'Ivoire, with much assistance, which is remembered by the Cote d'Ivoire government and people.

During this visit, he had seen China's great achievements in its reform and opening-up drive, said Sangare, adding that China has become a successful example for developing countries and has much experience worth learning.

He said his country is fully aware of China's increasing international status and role, and will further bilateral relations and cooperation.

He reiterated that the Cote d'Ivoire government will continue to follow a "one-China" policy unswervingly and support China's reunification.

China, Cote d'Ivoire to Promote Trade Ties
China and Cote d'Ivoire plan to further promote bilateral ties of economy and trade, according to the first meeting of a mixed committee on economy and trade between the two countries.

Shi Guangsheng, Chinese minister of foreign trade and economic cooperation, and Aboudrahamane Sangare, minister of state for foreign affairs of Cote d'Ivoire, jointly presided over the meeting held Tuesday in Beijing.

China is ready to strengthen cooperation and economic and tradeties with African countries including Cote d'Ivoire, Shi said. Although a developing country itself, China is willing to try its best to support African countries in developing their economies.

China will carry out diversified economic and technological cooperation at different levels with Cote d'Ivoire, and will encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Cote d'Ivoire, Shi said.

Sangare said that economic ties on the basis of equity and mutual benefits would help promote relations between the two countries. Cote d'Ivoire is willing to conduct economic and trade cooperation with China in more areas, he said.
