Beijing Mayor Welcomes Foreign High-Tech Investment

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi met Monday with David Farr, chief executive officer of the Emerson Electric Co. of the United States.

Briefing the guests on Beijing's economic growth in the past few years, Liu expressed his welcome to high-tech businesses like Emerson to invest here.

He also suggested that Emerson set up its own research and development center in Beijing and the city will create a favorableenvironment and provide better services.

Farr said Emerson is considering to increase its investment here as the Beijing Rosemount Fareast Instrument Co., Ltd., a joint venture set up here in 1996 between Emerson and Beijing, is under sound management.

Since its first joint venture set up in China in 1992, Emerson has established over 30 joint ventures in China with a total investment of over 3 billion US dollars.
