Macao's public security has improved greatly since it returned to the motherland two years ago, making the special administrative region (SAR) one of the safest places in the world, a high official from the Ministry of Public Security said Monday.
Zhu Entao, assistant minister of public security, made the remark at a work meeting between security departments from China's inland and Macao.
Cooperation Conducted to Fight Crimes
Police from Macao and China's interior has conducted wider, closer and more efficient cooperation since Macao's return, Zhu noted.
This year, the two sides joined hands in cracking down on economic crimes, organized crimes, drug deals and smuggling and protecting the safety of people's lives and property.
Efforts by Macao Police Reaffirmed
Zhu reaffirmed the efforts made by Macao police in upgrading local security situation, and vowed to provide full support for the SAR's security department.
Skill, Academic Exchange Strengthened
Policemen from Macao and the interior strengthened skill and academic exchanges this year. A special mechanism became effective on September 1 to notify each other the latest security information in an emergency.
Public Security Greatly Improved in Macao SAR
With optimized organizational structure, various types of police forces have become well coordinated to exert concerted efforts fighting against criminal activities. In order to raise the quality and morale of the police, Macao police have strengthened training of various forms. They have tightened discipline, meted out rewards and punishments fairly and weeded out bad members.
In the meantime, the police have increased street patrol and set up round-the-clock electronic supervision devices in areas with frequent occurrence of crimes.
What's more important, local residents are taking an active part in offering clues essential to cracking crimes. And the more universal use of Chinese language helps the police obtain information as soon as possible. The police have also established close ties with grass-roots social bodies so that the police can blend well with communities.
